Our President, Dame Monica Mason, will be joined by Stina Quagebeur (ENB’s Associate Choreographer), Matthew Ball (Principal dancer with the Royal Ballet who is himself an emerging choreographer) and Jamiel Devernay-Laurence  (acclaimed creative arts producer, choreographer and entrepreneur).

They will meet in January to consider submissions from schools, companies and from individual choreographers and the winner(s) will be announced at our AGM in March.


Dame Monica Mason

  • Born in Johannesburg and trained at the Royal Ballet School
  • Entered the Royal Ballet at aged 16 becoming the Company’s youngest member
  • Former Principal dancer with the Royal Ballet. 
  • Director of the Royal Ballet from 2002-2012.
  • President of the London Ballet Circle

Stina Quagebeur

  • Born in Belgium and trained at White Lodge and at the English National Ballet School
  • As a dancer has created roles in all Akram Khan’s works for ENB
  • Has been a choreographer throughout her career as a dancer and was named ENB’s Associate Choreographer in 2019
  • In 2020 was awarded Emerging Artist at the National Dance Awards

Matthew Ball

  • Born in Liverpool and graduated through the Royal Ballet School joining the Company in 2013 and being promoted to Principal dancer in 2018
  • Has created roles with renowned choreographers including Wayne McGregor, Crystal Pite, Christopher Wheeldon and Cathy Marston
  • Has begun creating his own works for the Royal Ballet’s ‘Draftworks’ programme and for the New English Ballet Theatre

Jamiel Devernay-Laurence

  • Trained at Tring and at Central School of Ballet
  • A former Soloist with Scottish Ballet, his choreographic and film works have been commissioned by the BBC, Celtic Connections, Google, Ballet Ireland, and Scottish Ballet
  • Curator and producer of the innovative ‘Ballet Nights’ presenting  high-impact programmes of ballet, contemporary dance and live music to new audiences in the UK and abroad 
  • Nominated for the 2024 Stage Awards Innovation Award
