George Liang is a coryphée with Northern Ballet, as well as a choreographer and creative entrepreneur originally from Taipei, Taiwan. Prior to joining Northern Ballet, he danced with The National Ballet of Canada, performing a wide range of leading roles while continuing to develop his artistic voice on national and international stages.
Alongside his performing career, George is deeply committed to choreography and storytelling through movement. He has created work for Northern Ballet, the Academy of Northern Ballet, Central School of Ballet, and Renaissance Arts, and is currently creating a new work with Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham. In February 2025, commissioned by Federico Bonelli (Artistic Director of Northern Ballet), he created Hansel & Gretel, a new children’s ballet that toured across the UK, introducing young audiences to the magic of ballet. In 2024, he collaborated with an ability dance artist on Sky Above, Voices Within, a duet exploring resilience and expression. That same year, his work Out of Breath was featured at the Royal Opera and Ballet’s Festival of New Choreography, and in 2025 Sky Above, Voices Within was presented at the Royal Opera and Ballet’s International Draftworks.
The Great Race of the Zodiac is a ballet inspired by the Chinese zodiac myth, where twelve animals race to claim their place in the zodiac, each celebrated for their unique spirit and strength.
