Cira is a Senior Artist with Ballet Black. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and began dancing at the age of eight. After graduating from the Performing Arts School in 2004, she moved to New York to dance full-time with the Dance Theater of Harlem. During her three years there, she performed at the White House for the President of the United States.

Cira joined Ballet Black in 2008, since when she has made her mark as a leading dancer in many new works, including those by Will Tuckett, Christopher Hampson, Arthur Pita, Christopher Marney, Mark  Bruce, and Martin Lawrance. Recent created roles include Red in Red Riding Hood by Annabelle Lopez-Ochoa and Matilda in The Suit by Cathy Marston.

In 2017, Cira, along with Company Founder, Cassa Pancho, collaborated with the British ballet shoe manufacturer, Freed of London, to create two brand new pointe shoe colours to enable dancers of black descent to buy skin-tone pointe shoes ready-made. These are now available worldwide. Cira also teaches regularly at the Ballet Black Junior School and for the Yorkshire Ballet Summer School.

Cassa Pancho MBE talked to the LBC in July 2020 and a video of the event, where Cassa covers her career as the Founder and Artistic Director of Ballet Black, can be viewed in the Members Only area of the LBC’s website.
