VISIT TO THE MASTERS OF BALLET ACADEMY

23 July 2025

In addition to their all year classes, the Masters Of Ballet Academy run intensive courses. A small group of members (small through capacity constraints) were invited to one day of the Summer intensive, based at their studios in Acton. This takes place over 5 days including performance on the Saturday at The Shaw Theatre. Joint Director, ex ENB Principal, Elena Glurjidze had just returned from running a large two week intensive in her birthplace of Tblisi, Georgia.

The Academy has the use of 3 studios and the classes are split into pre professional, seniors, pre seniors and juniors. We saw Elena take morning pre professional class for about 20 students, followed by pointe class for girls. She brings a strong emphasis on technique, the reasons behind it and how best to show it. It helps when the teacher can demonstrate it from experience at the highest level and based on previous visits, students return from previous years.

The Academy are flexible in letting members choose which class to watch. It is interesting to see different styles of teaching and different age groups and it probably helps students get used to performance which they achieve after only 4 days of intensive work.

A donation of £110 has been made.
