The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition 2023 is underway! Tim Arthur, Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Dance, warmly welcomed the participants, parents, teacher and invited guests to the opening reception held at the RAD’s headquarters in London.

In what promises to be an exciting week, 79 contestants representing 13 countries, from New Zealand to Mexico, will take class, rehearse, and work with Valentino Zucchetti on a specially commissioned group piece. This work, with music by Mendelssohn, will be performed at the final on October 29th at His Majesty’s Theatre, London. The young dancers will be taught by renowned teachers, including Sarah Wildor and David Nixon.

Following the opening remarks, four members of the London Ballet Circle had the opportunity to mingle with the contestants and guests. The conversations were animated, and the young dancers were excited to be meeting each other and, after a huge amount of preparation, to finally embark on this highly anticipated and prestigious competition. The buzz in the RAD was palpable.

The London Ballet Circle is delighted to have been a part of this wonderful evening with a donation of £750.
